Artist 101 - Artist Number 4

This week we are heading west!
Although this artist hailed from the northern half of the country, her most famous artwork celebrates the southwest.
Born in the late 1800's, she changed not only how people viewed nature, up close and personal...

she also changed the attitude about women
in the world of art.

This week's challenge question-

Where is "the faraway"?

Good luck to all!

Artist 101 - Artist number 3

Can't believe it is week 3 in our
Artist Challenge!
This artist's talent was recognized at an early age.  His father was a painter, art educator and curator.  When he took an assignment in Spain he convinced the School of Fine Arts to allow his son to take the entrance exam at 13.  Although most applicants took a month to finish the process, our artist completed the work in less than a week and so impressed the judges, he was accepted.

His long life allowed for him to experiment
with multiple creative styles.
Today, most of his works are
categorized into periods, i.e. blue and rose.

Trying to duplicate his creativity with my camera
...maybe I should stick to vertical views!

Ready for the challenge question?

Name the canine who wiggled his way into not only our artist work, but his art!

Once again, here are the contest rules...

Patch Your World Together with a little Bohemian Flair!

Last fall, Romney Leader wrote an article that
appeared on the Ford Model Shopping website that stated the trend for Fall 2011 was patchwork!

As usual, the trend has now hit the interior design world              (see Traditional Home's April 2012 issue,
Patched to Perfection).

At Maggie & Reese, we like to think we are
savvy designers who not only keep up with the
latest trends but are actual trend setters!
We introduced this patchwork pillow in January,
(well ahead of the media hype) on

another trendy find...

one more bit of bohemian style we offer,
perfect for adding that little bit of down home comfort
to your decor...

So remember to visit
and stitch a little style into your home!

Artist 101- Artist number 2

Well, here it is Wednesday and time for the second artist in our Artist 101 Challenge!
This artist (unlike the first artist in our series who has an entire movement named after his style of work)
was relatively unknown in his time.
The cottage below depicts how his home
might have looked in France.
Clue number 1 - check out the flowers!

As Reese and I entered the cottage, we found we had been transported into one of him most famous paintings:

This almost seems too easy, but just in case you need another clue, here is the painting....

Guessed him yet?

Now this week's challenge question...

What medical condition causes one to see light in circles around objects? This symptom is thought to have influenced one of this week's artist most famous paintings!

So remember, to be eligible for the contest,
"like" AND "share"

Artist 101 at the Dallas Arboretum

With spring color starting to pop up all over town, Maggie and Reese decided to visit the Dallas Arboretum and see their artistic take on spring blooms for 2012.  The day was slightly overcast but it was quickly determined to be ideal for capturing both the brilliant and subtle hues of the gardens.   As we were strolling along a garden path, all of the sudden we noticed a pretty little cottage ahead.....

and right next to it, a small arched bridge...

Hm mm,  this looks vaguely familiar!
Maggie pulled out her guide and quickly discovered that the Dallas Arboretum is celebrating the life of 5 selected artist from March 3 - December 31.  Local architects, builders and interior designers have created the exhibit of small houses with interiors that reflect the style of the artist, a few of their works and how they might have lived.  Each house has a 'book" outside that reveals a little bit
about the life of each artist.
We thought it would be fun to see how many art aficionados we have out there so here is our Artist 101 Challenge:
Today and for the next 4 Wednesdays, we will post pictures of an artist house and a few clues, if you "like" AND "share" the contest announcement post on our facebook page
you will receive a coupon for use at
If you "follow" our blog, in addition to the coupon,
you will receive free shipping on one item
purchased from Maggie & Reese.
Finally, the first person to correctly identify all five artist and answer the challenge question will receive all of the above AND a free gift from our on-line boutique!
So put on your thinking caps, here is
the challenge question for this week's artist:

Name the painting that not only defined this artist but named an entire art movement?

In closing, here are a few pictures from our trip as they might have been interpreted by this artist:
GOOD LUCK!
