HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

As the daughters of veterans,
Maggie and Reese have a special feeling
about Memorial Day.
Maggie's dad, ex-Army/Air Force,
served during the Korean War
while Reese's dad pulled duty
in the Navy during Vietnam.

So on this Monday, Maggie and Reese send a
Happy Memorial Day
wish to all of our veterans and their
wives, husbands, fathers, mothers,
brothers, sisters, children and
all those left behind
while they served our country.
We thank you for your service.

And here they are, the answers to our
Artist and Artist Challenge!

Artist Number 1 - Claude Monet
Challenge Question:
1.  Name the painting that not only defined this artist but named an entire art movement?

Answer:

Impression: Sunrise

*****

Artist Number 2 - Vincent Van Gogh
Challenge Question:
2.  What medical condition causes one to see light in
circles around objects?
This symptom is thought to have influenced one of this
week's artist most famous paintings!

Answer:

Although the "halo effect" can be caused
 by numerous conditions,
most doctors agree in Vincent's case,
it was caused by
temporal lope epilepsy.
Originally many thought Van Gogh's halos
were a side effect of the drug digitalis,
a drug from the foxglove plant that
was being prescribed by his physician
to treat his condition.
And although now most agree it was the epilepsy,
digitalis does cause patients to see in yellow,
which may be why that color is so dominant
 in his later works.

Artist 101 - Final Artist!

Well, here it is week 5 and our final Artist in our
Artist 101 challenge

We are back in France celebrating the work
of another artist from the 19th century.
Born to a wealthy family, this artist first studied sculpture.  After a painting presented to the Paris Salon was rejected, he joined an independent art movement and began work on his first masterpiece:

Advances in the world of chemistry strongly influenced the style this painter became widely known for:
Pointillism

So, are you ready for the final challenge question?

Can you name the unfinished painting left
behind by this painter?

Once again, here are the rules:

"like" AND "share"
each week's contest announcement post on
our facebook page:

(a lot of you are good at the "like" but are
falling short on the sharing!)

This earns you a coupon for use at

Next, FOLLOW our blog (again, a very important step!)
and in addition to the coupon you will receive free shipping on one item purchased from Maggie & Reese.

Finally, the first person to correctly identify all five artists and answer the challenge questions will receive all of the above and a free gift from our on-line boutique!
We will give you instructions on where to send your answers at the end of the contest, for now, just
"like", "share" and "follow"!
