Artist Number 2 - Vincent Van Gogh
Challenge Question:
2.  What medical condition causes one to see light in
circles around objects?
This symptom is thought to have influenced one of this
week's artist most famous paintings!

Answer:

Although the "halo effect" can be caused
 by numerous conditions,
most doctors agree in Vincent's case,
it was caused by
temporal lope epilepsy.
Originally many thought Van Gogh's halos
were a side effect of the drug digitalis,
a drug from the foxglove plant that
was being prescribed by his physician
to treat his condition.
And although now most agree it was the epilepsy,
digitalis does cause patients to see in yellow,
which may be why that color is so dominant
 in his later works.
